COMMENT A short and sweet release documenting Prince's 3121 perfume launch show at the Macy's store in Minneapolis, and part of the trilogy of concerts which took place in Minneapolis on 7th July 2007. The recording is pretty impressive, and outside of a little movement during the opening instrumental 'When The Saints Go Marching In' and some vocally appreciative audience members (read : loud fans) during the first two songs, there really isn't anything here worthy of being critical about. Throughout the show Prince is far and above any minimal audience noise there is, the recording is sharp and besides the opening few minutes being missing, it's also complete. Sheila E is a guest throughout the show, adding vocals for both 'A Love Bizarre' and 'The Glamorous Life', and she also makes an appearance on both 'Get On The Boat' and the closing 'Let's Go Crazy' on percussion. The show isn't bad by any means, and while the set-list may seem rather tired upon it's release in October 2008 after the madness of the London 2007 recordings surfacing, this is still a rather sexy little show with Prince in fine form. The band seem rather rusty on a few numbers with the horns seemingly missing their cue on occasion, which is interesting to hear, as is The Twinz insistence on making up their own lyrics to the chorus of 'Girls And Boys' (answers on a postcard as to what exactly they DO sing - winner gets dildo signed by their fair hand). The Sheila / Prince duets aside, the only other performance worthy of note is 'Guitar' which was still relatively new at the time, and whilst Prince appears to mess up the final verse and adds an extended guitar groove to cover his tracks, I still find this one of the better live performances of the song from 2007. So to sum up, we like this alot. At 40 minutes long, it's a nice sampler of what would be played throughout the summer of 2007, and Sheila's presence throughout ("Do your thang Grandmaw") adds a slightly unusual flair not found on many other shows. Nice recording, nice show, nice set-list and nice artwork makes for a really rather nice release. That evenings Target Centre show was also freed by Fearless on their 'Hotter Than July' release.
